This has been the only trip I have done without planning because it was a surprise gift and let me tell you; it was not bad at all. Madrid has countless things to do and places to visit. So I will tell you about my experience in the Motherland.
- Travel: We flew for about $100 each person round trip in mid-February. The weather was a little chilly in the mornings but beautiful during the day.
- Lodging: We stayed two nights at Hotel Nuevo Madrid for $188 with breakfast included. The hotel was booked through booking.com. I was delighted with the view from the 12th floor.
- Local transport: At the airport is the train station and there they informed us about fares and the map. We bought an unlimited train ticket for $40 for 3 days.
- Tourism: We visited the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the Telefónica Foundation (many exhibitions reminded me of Las Chicas del Cable series), Temple of Debod (from there you can see a spectacular sunset), Parque de Retiro (we ran bicycles), the National Mint and Bell, Monument El Oso y el Madroño, Sweets in La Mayorquina, El Palacio Real, Plaza de Toro, KM 0 and Plaza Mayor. We also went to various shopping stores.
We returned to the hotel, super tired with the intention of taking a nap and then going to see a flamenco show but it became a dream of hours, therefore, we could not make it on time, so we ordered food to the hotel. Since then, we have the joke "let's take the Madri-nap". - Food: We had delicious and cheap food at La Tabernita for $38 and at 100 Montaditos for $16. We also ate empanadillas in one of the streets near Plaza Mayor.
- Nightlife: We signed up on the guest list of various clubs because we hadn't decided which one to go to, but we went to Teatro Kapital. We showed a website pass where it gave us admission plus two drinks for $19.
We are delighted with Madrid! Not only for its food and its tourist places but for its atmosphere, its people and its language. We will definitely visit another Spanish city in the future.
Interesting note: Most shops close from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm. So if you miss lunch, you have to wait for dinner, but Spanish people usually eat dinner at 9:30 pm. Finally, the Madrileños are called cats. Look up the history of that. haha
I hope my blog will intrigue you to visit not only this beautiful and important city, but other cities in Spain. If you liked it please share with your friends and follow my Facebook page @ k1wayticket and Instagram page @onewayticket_k
